Angry Reader of the Week: Lianne Lin

"...I have spent my whole life learning to be more of a participant and less a simple observer."

What's up, good people of the internet? It's time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Lianne Lin.

Who are you?

Lianne Lin, this artsy weirdo. I like silly jokes, games like Guitar Hero and Dance Central, and furry animals (but not tarantulas). I also like naps.

What are you?

Taurus, INFP, a confused wanderer, always thinking, constantly changing and growing, trying to figure out the meaning of it all.

Where are you?

Alhambra, CA, part of San Gabriel Valley, just east of LA. THE FOOD WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in the SF bay area, spent 5 years in LA, 3 years in Taiwan, was briefly back in SF, and now back in LA. My dad is an ABC (American Born Chinese) and my mom is from Taiwan.

What do you do?

I work part time as a hairstylist, and I have a lot of hobbies. In the past I have done photography, made costumes and jewelry that I sold online, did some modeling and background acting, hosted videos for Next Media Animation in Taiwan, and now I make my own videos about culture, dance, beauty, and random other crap.

What are you all about?

I grew up an awkward nerd who always had a desire to express myself and connect with people, so I have spent my whole life learning to be more of a participant and less a simple observer. I've experienced and learned a lot, and gotten over many of my fears.

I ended up back in LA this year, where I was able to meet some amazing people who really care about the community, which is something I've been needing in my life. One of them happened to be Phil Yu from Angry Asian Man. I've been reading this blog for years and am honored to be Angry Reader of the week!

What makes you angry?

I used to get really pissed off when people said racist things about Asians. Most of the time, when people are racist, they are actually trying to give a compliment ("Asian girls are hot!"), or ask something out of curiosity ("Why is your English so good?") but end up sounding stupid. Just plain dumb. Then, I went to Taiwan where suddenly I blended in with the majority, and the locals were ignorant about non-Asians. I realized we are all ignorant about something, and any of us can accidentally say the wrong thing. HOWEVER, there are some people who don't care to learn about other cultures, lifestyles and backgrounds. They choose to stay ignorant and/or say things solely to hurt others. Those people make me angry.

Luckily, good people far outnumber the bad, so we should focus on that and try our best to be a positive influence on the people around us.
