"I love people who are passionate about what they do and care enough to fight for it."
Hello, internet! It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Hieu Ho.
Who are you?
Hieu Ho. Additional clues can be found on Twitter: @hieunho
What are you?
A son. A brother. A friend. A storyteller and lover of street food.
Where are you?
At my office in the beautiful neighborhood of Mid-City West, Los Angeles.
Where are you from?
Born in Vietnam, my family fled the country when I was a year old after the war. We were lost and adrift in the open sea for 16 days before being rescued by an oil tanker and taken to Japan. Eventually, we made our way to the sunshine of Orange County, California where I grew up. Like so many other immigrants now and then, my parents risked everything for us to have a better life. Forever grateful.
What do you do?
I'm a film and television producer. I run a production studio with my producing partner, director Jon M. Chu. We're currently working on a range of cool projects from a high concept action horror movie with Lionsgate Studios to a high school dance comedy set in the 90s with Focus Features. I love collaborating with our amazingly talented writers and filmmakers to tell all kinds of stories.
What are you all about?
Being a catalyst to help generate empathy and compassion. Exploring the world. Getting shit done.
What makes you angry?
Apathy. I love people who are passionate about what they do and care enough to fight for it... whether its social injustice or creating art. We're at an incredible time in history where anything can be possible and despite real challenges (both institutional and overt), there's an opportunity to transcend those boundaries and leap off the shoulders of giants we stand upon to make a meaningful impact. We have to hustle harder than anyone else and create our own rules to a game that has always been stacked against us.
Also, could someone please open up a legit Vietnamese restaurant in Los Angeles. I'm not talking about SGV, I mean downtown or Hollywood or the westside. Seriously.
