Some more interesting TV news... NBC is developing I Love Lakshmi, a comedy about a (presumably white) guy who marries into an Indian family, and the hilarity and hijinks that ensue from their cross-cultural union.
NBC Developing 'I Love Lakshmi' Family Comedy From Aggregate
According to Deadline, the multi-camera comedy, co-written by Muffy Bolding and Doug Prochilo, is inspired by Prochilo's real-life experience marrying into an Indian family (he is married to Bela Bejaria, President of Universal Television), which somebody must have thought was toooootally hilarious fodder for a TV show.
The project is co-written by Muffy Bolding & Doug Prochilo and inspired by Prochilo's real-life experience marrying into an Indian family (He is married to Universal TV president Bela Bajaria). I Love Lakshmi follows the trials and tribulations of new parents, Danny and Lakshmi, as they endure Lakshmi's own meddlesome immigrant parents -- whose version of the American dream never included a Danny.
This sounds like another great opportunity to see more South Asian actors starring on a prime time network show. But I really hope it doesn't lean heavily on the tired trope of the (presumably white) outsider dealing with this "meddlesome" immigrant in-laws and their weird ways. That's a red flag for me. But here's hoping.
