Entertainment Tonight was invited to the set of Star Trek Beyond, where it got the exclusive lowdown, including an interesting character revelation about the latest installment of the big budget sci-fi franchise: Sulu's a dad.

Star John Cho, who plays Hikaru Sulu, explains that Star Trek Beyond finds the Enterprise crew a couple of years into their mission -- and feeling kind of homesick. For Sulu, that means missing his baby daughter, whose photo sits on his console at the ship's helm. (Which is a little unprofessional, Cho admits.)
So Sulu has a kid daughter.
This won't be a complete surprise for long-time Trekkies. In 1994's Star Trek: Generations, we were introduced to Starfleet officer Demora Sulu (played by Jacqueline Kim), the adult daughter of Hikaru Sulu, serving on the USS Enterprise-B. Her screen time was brief, but it gave a rare glimpse into Sulu's life outside of Starfleet.

While the 2009 Star Trek movie rebooted the franchise's timeline, revamping and recasting the original series crew, it appears that they've retained this particular detail about Enterprise helmsman's personal life and the next generation of Sulu. This will, no doubt, inspire a juicy wave of internet fanfiction.
In the ET segment, Cho also teases that there is another noteworthy revelation in regard to Sulu's baby -- by the way, who's the mom? -- but we'll apparently have to wait to see the movie to find out.
