Angry Reader of the Week: Alex Hwang

"I'd like to thank Baby Jesus, my parents and Lord Voldemort..."

All right, folks. You know what's up. It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Alex Hwang.

Who are you?

My name is Alex. Band leader of Run River North, fiancé to Susan Cha. Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

What are you?

In terms of music - I usually correlate my musicianship to my height for an Asian-American male (5'9" on a good day) -- so a very average, maybe slightly below average musician? I'm a dude with properly working dude parts. I'd like to thank Baby Jesus, my parents and Lord Voldemort for that.

Where are you?

In my bedroom in the San Fernando Valley, contemplating whether to get a desk or leave the room because working where I sleep is slowly turning into eating where I shit. Or poop. Totally dependent on whether you like your feces to have a sharp hiss/cutting sound or if you're more of a rounder, sillier palindrome kind of person.

Where are you from?

Born in Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles in 1986, January 30th. Youngest memory of location is finding snow on our lawn in the San Fernando valley (which even then, somehow, the memory is wrapped in this odd feeling of WTF).

What do you do?

Well, my favorite color is light tan. My favourite animal is poopies. I like serving the Lord. Hiking, play volleyball and trying to learn a buttload of crap about the Gospel.

I also do this band called Run River North with five other angry asian men and women. We do albums and do tours and do Honda commercials. We just did a second album called Drinking from a Salt Pond and we're going to do some American and Canadian states in the next two months. For the last doing, I mean performing concerts of our music which can loosely be categorized as rock-alternative-indie-asian-pizza-orgasms-jesus-black-lives-matter type of music.

What are you all about?

This changes with the seasons, the colors of the wind and which Disney movie I'm currently into. But for now, I'm all about this quote from Kahlil Gibran:

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was often times filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven

What makes you angry?

Absolutes.
