Where are we now in the fight for Asian American Studies?

Since the 1968 Third World Liberation Front strikes at San Francisco State University and University of California Berkeley, Asian Americans have banded together with fellow students of color to demand their experiences and histories be taught through Ethnic Studies programs. But this is not just a historical movement. Today, the student-led fight for Asian American Studies (AAS) continues at colleges and universities across the country.

Please join 18MillionRising.org and undergraduate Asian American student activists from Cornell University, Hunter College, and Northwestern University for an exciting dialogue on the ongoing fight for Asian American Studies. In a conversation moderated by Professor Vijay Prashad (Trinity University), we will discuss the campaign that led to the recent establishment of an AAS major at Northwestern, as well as the work being done at Cornell and Hunter towards establishing AAS majors at their respective institutions. The Google Hangout will be accompanied by an interactive Twitter action through which participants can help influence decision makers and voice their support for these student efforts. Use the hashtag #Fight4AAS to follow along.

Featuring Linda Luu and Kevin Park (Hunter College, Craash: An Asian American Student Union), Kevin Luong (Asian Pacific American Coalition at Northwestern University), and Omar Khurshid and Emily Dong (Cornell University, APAA | Asian Pacific Americans for Action at Cornell University). Moderated by Vijay Prashad (Trinity College).

This website would not exist without Asian American Studies, nor without the efforts of student activists who organized and fought for it. For further information about the Google Hangout, refer to the Facebook event.
