Angry Reader of the Week: Paul Dateh

"I create, perform, and teach music."

Greetings, good people of the internet. It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Paul Dateh.

Who are you?

Hello! My name is Paul, and I'm a musician.

What are you?

I'm a native Angeleno Japanese/Okinawan American.

Where are you?

I'm currently home in LA, but I hope to get back to traveling soon!

Where are you from?

I'm from music school. It's where I was raised from when I was a toddler into my adulthood. Music school taught me a lot of valuable skills for which I am extremely grateful. But as I got older, I realized that they taught me literally everything I knew. And "everything" turned out to be a very small slice of what life has to offer. There was a huge, exciting world beyond the practice-room walls that I was missing out on -- a world that I was even discouraged from exploring! After a while, I felt imprisoned rather than feel educated. I eventually escaped, and I'm much happier for it. I know now that it's all about balance: there's a time to focus, and there's a time to go OUTSIDE!

What do you do?

I create, perform, and teach music. I just finally released a new record! It's called Invisible World, and I really hope you enjoy it. Learning new skills and trying new things is also something I really enjoy. Currently, I'm learning about voice acting and standup comedy. I anyone has any guidance to offer me as I further explore those worlds, please let me know.

What are you all about?

I'm a huge science and tech nerd. I'm obsessed with scouring the internet for news and rumors on every upcoming gadget. I love reading articles about newly discovered cures for debilitating diseases. It all makes me so hopeful for the future. Just like music and art, the spirit of science and technology is always about making our lives better. However annoying her song is, that little red-haired girl had it right: "Tomorrow" is going to be great!

What makes you angry?

My own shortcomings. Being misunderstood. Slow drivers in the HOV or fast lane. Drivers that cut you off to then drive super slow (no joke, what is that?). People that get ahead by stepping on other people, which in the Business is sadly and unsurprisingly a lot of people. Snobbery that ruins the fun of things, but also politics that applaud mediocrity. Rebooting tired franchises instead of discovering and sharing new stories.
