Stay Angry, But Not Hangry

Sponsored Post by KPOP Foods

KPOP Foods was started by a couple of friends who came together through a mutual love for Korean food (and soju), and wanted to share their obsession with the flavors and experience of eating Korean food with America. Powered by an enormously successful Kickstarter campaign, their first product is KPOP Sauce, a "chili sauce with attitude" that can be used for cooking and as a condiment, "good on everything from burgers to broccoli."

Want to get a taste of KPOP Sauce in action? The folks at KPOP Foods have cooked up a special recipe just for you, the good readers of this blog: Angry Asian Man's Pork Belly & Kimchi Grilled Cheese Sandwich. A spicy, Korean twist on a cheesy traditional American classic.

Angry Asian Man's Pork Belly & Kimchi Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Makes 1 Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 2 slices sourdough bread
  • 2 slices of pepper jack
  • 2 slices of mozzarella
  • 1 tbsp of mayo
  • 1 quarter of green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 quarter of onion, sliced
  • 2-3 large slices of pork belly
  • 1/4 cup of chopped kimchi
  • 3 tablespoons of KPOP Sauce (add more for additional heat)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper
Pork Belly Marinade

  • 2 tablespoons of KPOP Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of canola oil

Directions

  1. Marinate Pork Belly - add all ingredients into a plastic container or bag and put in pork belly to marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Grill the onions and peppers - put sliced peppers and onions into a pan over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar and pinch of salt and pepper and sauté.
  3. Grill the pork belly - using a skillet or same pan as the peppers and onions, begin cooking the pork belly slices. Cook each side approximately 2 minutes or to your liking. Once cooked, slice the pork belly into small pieces (this makes it easier to eat in the sandwich)
  4. Prepare the bread and melt the cheese - spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. On one slice, add the 2 slices of pepper jack (non-mayo side) and on the other slice, add the 2 slices of mozzarella (non-mayo side). With the mayo-side, place the two slices of bread on a plate and put in microwave for 30 seconds to melt the cheese.
  5. Grill the bread - after removing the bread from the microwave, place the two slices onto a pan over medium heat (mayo-side down on the pan). As the mayo-side of the sliced bread begins to brown, add the peppers and onions, pork belly, kimchi, and desired amount of KPOP Sauce. Fold the other slice of bread on top and remove from the pan. Slice the sandwich in half. Enjoy!
  6. Stay angry, but not hangry!
