Angry Reader of the Week: Paul Sun-Hyung Lee

"Ask me about my proton pack."

Hey, everybody! What is up. It's time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.

Who are you?

I am Paul Sun-Hyung Lee: father, husband, actor, writer and geek. I'm also a two time Canadian Screen Award winning lead actor on CBC's hit comedy series Kim's Convenience now available on Netflix US, UK, AUS/NZ.

What are you?

A troublemaker.

Where are you?

Currently residing in Toronto, Ontario Canada! More specifically in the old city of East York. East end represent!

Where are you from?

I was born in Daejeon South Korea but my parents immigrated to Canada when I was 3 months old.

What do you do?

Acting primarily. We just finished shooting season 3 of Kim's here in Toronto and I'm stretching my wings and hosting a new show for the CBC called Canada's Smartest Person Jr. next. In my down time, I love being a dad to my kids and a husband to my wife. I've also gotten interested in replica prop building and have busily been recreating icon props from my favourite movies in my youth. Ask me about my proton pack.

What are you all about?

Doing excellent work, no matter what it is. Doing your job. Fairness, equality, diversity, inclusivity and respect. I believe that representation matters and the more we can reflect the many faces and voices we have in our society, the stronger we will be. But I also feel strongly about earning your keep and not expecting anyone to give you a handout. Here's a blurb from my soon to be launched website:

"I ALWAYS TELL YOUNG ACTORS OF COLOUR:

We have to work five times harder than everyone else because even though we have few chances to succeed, we have even fewer chances to fail. So in order to continue, we have to knock every opportunity we get out of the ball park. That's the gig. It's not fair. In fact it's really shitty, but that's the way it is.

For now.

So I say to them: be excellent. Be excellent at what you do. Be so excellent your talents cannot be ignored. Learn as much as you can about your craft from every moment you're on set, or in rehearsal, or watching another actor perform. Learn. Be bold in your choices. Be fearless. Go to places that will surprise you. Work your ass off. Be prepared. Be professional. And above all else, be kind and humble. Humility and kindness are the strongest attributes you can have and will serve you more than you can imagine in this crazy, exhilarating journey.

The times are changing. Our stories, our narratives, our voices are starting to be heard. When our opportunity comes, let's be ready to shine.

Okseeyou."

What makes you angry?

Willful ignorance. Bullies. Selfishness and self-centredness. People who lack gratitude and humility. Laziness and lack of critical thinking. People who don't like Star Wars Episode VIII.
