Angry Reader of the Week: Tony Garbanzos

"I've cried numerous times reading X-Men issues."

Greetings, good people of the internet. You know what time it is. Time to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Tony Garbanzos.

Who are you?

Tony Garbanzos.

Some people have followed that question with, "really?" Yes, really. Who would make a stage name like that?

What are you?

A cookie boy. Also, Filipino American.

Where are you?

Los Angeles, but truthfully, Alhambra, CA. It's east of LA. I usually just say LA. I mean, if you look on a map, it looks too far from LA to count as LA, but it's not, and I answered "Los Angeles" already.

Where are you from?

My formative years were in San Diego, CA, home of AC Slater and california burritos. You're welcome.

I'm told that I was born in Kansas City, MO, but I have zero memories of that place, so... it doesn't count.

What do you do?

I perform at improv shows around town with my all-Asian male team, Miss Golightly. (Get it? Mr. Yunioshi felt too on-the-nose, and Mickey Rooney was already taken.) We currently host the weekly show, Happy Hour, at the Upright Citizens Brigade's Inner Sanctum stage. We also made a parody of the Crazy Rich Asians trailer, "Crazy Poor Asians."

In between these late nights spent improvising, I act in sketches, webseries, and short films. Sometimes, I produce! Like... sketches, webseries, and short films. And, The Comedy Comedy Festival: A Comedy Festival, starting its 4th year TODAY.

What are you all about?

COOKIES. Have you tried them? They're DELICIOUS.

Also, comedy. Laughter is an innate reflex to be enjoyed with others. It's what will save us all.

And comic books. I've cried numerous times reading X-Men issues. (Kitty Pryde took a literal bullet for the world, FYI. It was heart wrenching.)

What makes you angry?

When folks think they're entitled to something, especially at the cost of another person's state of being, it makes me see red. Get out of here with that ****. You don't deserve something just because you want it. Put in the work. Earn it.

Also? Y'all, cut it out with the apathy, selfishness, and bigotry. We're all humans, and humans are all flawed, so just help each other out, ok? Let's get through it together.
