Open casting call seeks talent for upcoming film version of the beloved Tony Award-winning musical.



In the Heights is looking for some fresh talent. Director Jon M. Chu's upcoming adaptation of the beloved Tony Award-winning musical has put out an open digital casting call for auditions.

In the Heights, with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, follows the residents of largely Latino Upper Manhattan neighborhood Washington Heights -- a bodega owner, a college student, a taxi driver, a beauty salon worker, and an old woman -- aspire to better lives as gentrification begins to take hold, and a sweltering summer power blackout brings their personal life crises to a head.

The Tony Award-winning hit musical IN THE HEIGHTS is coming to the big screen! With music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and book by Quiara Alegría Hudes and directed by Jon M. Chu, this lively musical centers around characters in the Latino-American community of bustling Washington Heights in New York City. When the neighborhood's charismatic local bodega owner, and our story's humble narrator, finally decides to fulfill his dream of going to the island his parents called home, his departure will change his beloved block forever. Piraguas and blackouts, coming home and moving out, IN THE HEIGHTS is a beloved musical that submerges us into the vibrant rhythm of the city and uplifts us into the heart of a rich community.

Want to be IN THE HEIGHTS? Send us an audition tape through our digital open call! This will give you the chance to be considered for a role in the film, currently scheduled to start production in early summer 2019.

Pick one role from below that most suits you to put on tape. This is not necessarily the role you will be considered for but will give us a chance to see you perform something written in the spirit of the characters who appear in the film.

FEMALE ROLE #1 - Young, starry-eyed and intelligent (book-smart and street-smart). Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.

FEMALE ROLE #2 - A strong woman who is stylish, sassy and loves to gossip. Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.

MALE ROLE #1 - Completely streetwise, this teen is brilliant but also a total goofball. Must sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.

MALE ROLE #2 - Driven, charismatic, and full of energy. Puts on a brave face when times get tough. Must rap, sing and dance well. Familiarity with speaking Spanish is ideal.
