Angry Reader of the Week: Richie Menchavez

"I am always digging to discover great music."

Hello, internet friends. Once again, we find ourselves at another opportunity to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Richie Menchavez.

Who are you?

I am Richie Menchavez aka Richie Traktivist.
I am a lucky husband to my life partner Tricia and a proud dog parent of DJ, my Catahoula Leopard / Australian Shepard.
I am a musichead and dj.

What are you?

I am Filipinx American.
I am an Asian American.
I am the child of immigrant parents from the provinces of Catmon and Macaas in Cebu, Philippines.

Where are you?

I am currently at DASH Radio studios in Hollywood, California having just finished recording our radio show, but I haven't eaten lunch yet so I'm excited to go home soon :)

Where are you from?

I am originally from Newark, California in the East Bay Area.

What do you do?

I am the executive producer & co-host of TRAKTIVIST RADIO, the largest weekly music show featuring music by Asian Americans, exclusively on DASH Radio (10 million+ subscribers worldwide)
I am the creator of TRAKTIVIST.com, an unprecedented website featuring over 2,000 Asian American artists.
I am the Chief Operating Officer of a Record Label.
I am always digging to discover great music.

What are you all about?

From some of our earliest beginnings in Jazz through Danny Barcelona, to the first Asian American music album A Grain of Sand, to the recent Grammy success of H.E.R., Asian Americans have been, and continue to create amazing music, which is essentially the sharing our our stories through art. I believe my current call in life is to help bring more awareness to this music and building with our community to create a sustainable ecosystem for future generations.

What makes you angry?

I am angry when Asian Americans cannot name more than 7 Asian American artists.
I am angry when that supposed list of 7 Asian American artists includes artists NOT from America.
I am angry at those who have a "I Gotta Get Mine" mentality. We should share resources and support. We can all elevate together.
