Angry Reader of the Week: Andrea Walter

"Enjoy your life, it's frigging awesome you are here."

Hey, everybody! It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Andrea Walter.

Who are you?

Andrea A. Walter.

What are you?

A human traveling through space and time, trying to figure out what to do with my spare time.

Where are you?

Currently in the Philippines enjoying the monsoon in my family's house in the south of Metro Manila.

Where are you from?

I am mixed race, half English and Half Filipina. I was born and raised in Manila Philippines, spent a few years in Vanuatu and many summers in the United Kingdom. I now currently reside in both Los Angeles and Manila.

What do you do?

I work as a screenwriter and director, for independent films but I hope to get into TV and bigger movies as I grow in my life not in my height. Sometimes I still work as a cinematographer, which I am currently serving as one on Dante Basco's movie. After that, prep on my next film as a director and take a couple of road trips around the good ole USA.

What are you all about?

I'm a huge advocate for South East Asian mangoes. Especially green ones. Have you had one? If you haven't... you must try one. Life changing. Having a green mango with a side of bagoong is probably the greatest gift to the human stomach. Food sits at the highest of my priority list.

I'm all about finding your voice and speaking it, even if it takes decades to figure it out. And many mistakes along the way. I never really found my voice (actually I don't know if I have yet) till my late twenties. Then I started to tell the stories I wanted to tell. I believe the acceptance and acknowledgement of who I am, as biracial and bisexual, has pushed me in the right direction. So I hope others do the same and find that. I've felt that not just creating but also supporting others work has shaped my voice. I try my best to support all of my friends and peers work, whether it's showing up to multiple screenings and buying tickets to their movie, taking a friend out for bubble after a failed audition or just an afternoon bullshitting around whilst they figure out what to do in life. Community has really shaped my life and I hope to be a part of that for others.

I am inspired by my nephew, who finds the greatness in everything, his sense of curiosity fills mine up each day. I am writing this as we watch Kiki's Delivery Service and his sense of wonder fuels me to always find the magic in life.

What makes you angry?

There are somethings in life that make me lose my mind, for example when my roommate eats almonds in front of me knowing I'm allergic. And he stares deeply at me which makes me just want to throw something at his face. On a much more personal level, there was a time in my life when people would tell me I couldn't identify as both a Caucasian and a South East Asian. I thought, what? Why not? I am both, I will be both and you can’t tell me what I can or cannot do. I actually found that more frustrating than when people just told me I was some white girl.

But as a whole, when people lose sight of humanity. That's what makes me angry. Oh and space, there's a whole universe out there so get the fuck over yourself and look at the big picture. Enjoy your life, it's frigging awesome you are here.
