Goodbye, Lucky Star. Feds shut down another Chinatown bus.

Aw man. More bad news for folks who like their bus trips fast, cheap and dangerous... Not long after Fung Wah met its untimely end, we get the news that Lucky Star is the latest discount Chinatown bus line to get shut down by the feds: Feds Shut Down Lucky Star Bus Due To Safety Hazards, Giant Holes.

According to the Department of Transportation, Lucky Star "fails to ensure that its motor coaches are systematically and properly inspected, repaired and maintained and meet minimum safety standards." In other words, the bus line is unsafe as hell, including one motor coach that had a giant hole in the bottom of the bus:

Last month, federal authorities halted operations of Fung Wah, citing major safety concerns after the discount Chinatown bus company failed multiple state and federal inspections. Being crafty, Fung Wah reportedly found a way around the federal order by contracting outside charter buses to transport passengers.

But alas, Fung Wah was permanently shut down with a new order last week, by swift decree of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration: Feds Issue 'Imminent Hazard' Order For Fung Wah Bus Line, Order Immediate Shutdown.

The agency's investigation found widespread evidence of safety problems that put "drivers, passengers and other motorists in danger of serious injury or death." In other words, Fung Wah was crazy unsafe:

Boom. This week, in a big blow to travelers of the cheap, federal officials ordered the Fung Wah bus company off the road: Discount Bus Company Fung Wah Suspended After Failing Safety Inspections.

The Boston-based discount bus company, known for its cheap tickets to and from major cities in the Northeast (Boston to New York City, just 15 bucks!), has been shut down by the Transportation Department for failing multiple state and federal safety inspections:
