9500 liberty screening this friday in tempe, arizona

This is for all my people in Arizona (sorry...) interested in checking out Eric Byler and Annabel Park's award-winning documentary 9500 Liberty. It will be screening this Friday, April 30 at the Harkins Valley Art Theater in Tempe.

The film is an interesting, provocative examination of a Virginia county's short-lived police mandate requiring officers to question people they had cause to suspect were undocumented immigrants. Sound familiar?

As you know, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a similar measure, HB1070, into law on Friday, which immediately prompted an agreement to screen 9500 Liberty at Harkins this week. Here are the screening details:
9500 LIBERTY
STARTS FRIDAY April 30, 2010

Harkins Valley Art Theater
509 S Mill Ave.
Tempe, AZ 85281

Special Premiere Event Friday at 7:00 PM

The Prince William County mandate was eventually repealed after two months due to negative economic, legal, and public safety impacts. Critics of HB 1070 predict the same fate in Arizona, citing 9500 Liberty as documentary evidence.

Annabel Park and Eric Byler will be in attendance at Friday's screening. They had actually been in talks with Harkins for a theatrical engagement later this year, but as the controversy in Arizona erupted, the schedule was accelerated. To learn more about 9500 Liberty, visit the website here.
