matcha: ghosts & golden clouds, october 28

This is for all my people in the Bay Area... Make some plans next week to attend MATCHA, the Asian Art Museum's bi-monthly art/music/mixer gathering -- the last MATCHA of the year. This month, things get spooky: Ghosts & Golden Clouds. An evening of drinks, music... and ghost tales. It's happening Thursday, October 28 at the Asian Art Museum. Here are some more details:

MATCHA: Ghosts & Golden Clouds
Thursday, October 28, 5-9 pm
$10 (includes entry to Beyond Golden Clouds)
Asian Art Museum

In Japanese Noh theatre, ghosts are usually upset females who won't go peacefully to into the night. Storytellers help people remember the past, and ghost stories remind us that what remains after we are dead are the consequences of our actions. This Halloween, get spooked by dramatic, haunting Japanese ghost tales performed by Brenda Wong Aoki with Emmy Award-winning Jazz composer Mark Izu, the taiko drums of Janet Koike & Kathryn Cabunoc, Anthony Brown on multiple percussion, Shoko Hikage on Koto, and Mas Koga on Saxophone and Shakuhachi.

This last MATCHA of the year also includes an art activity (make your own Noh mask), cash bar, docent tours and the exhibition Beyond Golden Clouds, which showcases dozens of large Japanese screens spanning five centuries. These masterpieces are the ideal combination of function and beauty.
Want to win free tickets? The Asian Art Museum is giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky, randomly drawn winner. All you have to do is email asianartmuseumsf@gmail.com by Tuesday morning, October 26, with the subject line "I like scary stories." You must include your phone number. You'll be contacted if you win.
