Last week, the Senate voted 56-42 in favor of confirming Judge Edward M. Chen to serve as a federal district court judge for the Northern District of California. Now it's time Goodwin Liu's turn. Word on the street is, the vote to confirm judicial nominee Professor Liu to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will occur very soon.

Let's make this happen! It's time for action. You can support Professor Liu's confirmation by calling your home state Senators at 202-224-3121 and asking for their support of Professor Liu's nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. To call your Senators, follow these steps:

- Call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121.

- When the operator at the switchboard picks up, let them know that you would like to be connected to the office of your home state Senators. You can find your Senators as well as their contact information here: http://tinyurl.com/senatorsbystate.

- When the Senator's staffer picks up, politely introduce yourself and say that you would like the Senator to support Professor Liu's nomination, and that his confirmation is important to the Asian Pacific American community. The staffer will make a note of your call and your support of Professor Liu.

Check this. Asian Pacific Americans are significantly underrepresented on the federal bench. There are currently no Asian Pacific American judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, despite the large Asian Pacific American population that it covers, and only one active Asian Pacific American federal appellate court judge nationwide.

Says Eric Schultz, White House spokesman: "Goodwin Liu is a mainstream, well-qualified judicial nominee of great intellect, with a compelling personal story as the son of immigrants, who has achieved tremendous success at a young age. His mainstream views and sterling qualifications have earned him the highest rating of “unanimous well-qualified” from the non-partisan American Bar Association as well as the strong support of Republicans and Democrats."
