bank of canada apologizes for $100 bill race redesign

Last week, news emerged that the Bank of Canada's original design for the new $100 bill, which included an image of Asian woman scientist, was shot down by negative focus group reactions and redrawn to represent a more "neutral" ethnicity. The news did not sit well with the internets.

No doubt feeling the heat for this revelation, the Bank of Canada issued a public apology for removing the image, saying that it mishandled the situation and will review the design process. Well, great for you, Bank of Canada: Bank of Canada apologizes for ‘Asian-looking’ woman debacle.
Governor Mark Carney said in a statement the bank will review the design process that led to the image being removed.

"I apologize to those who were offended — the Bank’s handling of this issue did not meet the standards Canadians justifiably expect of us," he said.

"Our bank notes belong to all Canadians, and the work we do at the Bank is for all Canadians."
Wow, I'm sure Asian folks feel better now. The Bank must have caught a lot of crap over this, if they were actually compelled to issue an apology.

That said, it's not much of an apology. Sorry "to those who were offended"? How about sorry for caving in to wack racist sentiments? For now, I guess all Canadians will continue to enjoy using the Caucasian Dollar Bill.
