Police said Piara Singh was walking on Cherry Avenue just south of North Avenue when he was attacked by a man riding a bicycle and armed with a steel rod around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Singh has been hospitalized with head wounds, broken ribs and lung lacerations. He was listed in fair condition Thursday at Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno.
Garcia has pleaded not guilty to the felony charges and is in jail with bail set at more than $1.5 million. He scheduled to appear in court on June 26. More here: Hate crime added in Sikh beating case.
