Leland Yee pleads guilty in corruption case

Former California state senator pleads guilty to felony racketeering charge.



Former California state senator Leland Yee pleaded guilty Wednesday to a felony racketeering charge, admitting he solicited and accepted bribes, and will likely face prison time for his part in the high-profile organized crime and public corruption case that ended his political career.

Yee previously pleaded not guilty to bribery, money laundering, gun trafficking and other felony charges, and was scheduled to go on trial later this month with three other defendants, political consultant Keith Jackson, his son, Brandon Jackson, and former sports agent Marlon Sullivan.

But Yee changed his plea today in federal court, admitting to wire fraud and using his political influence to accept bribes, and will likely serve prison time of at least several years. According to federal sentencing guidelines, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Samuel In, a 37-year former city employee who pleaded guilty to felony bribery last year, is one of five former Building and Safety employees facing charges as a result of a 2010 bribery investigation by the FBI. In addition to prison time, he was ordered to pay $30,000 to the city of Los Angeles.

U.S. Navy commander charged in bribery scheme

A high-profile U.S. Navy commander faces federal bribery charges for schemes involving hundreds millions of dollars in Navy contracts with payoffs that included prostitutes and luxury travel in exchange for classified information: High profile U.S. Navy commander charged in bribery case.

According to the U.S. attorney's office, Navy Cmdr. Michael Vannak Khem Misiewic sent classified information, including ship movements, and used his position as deputy operations officer for the U.S. commander of the Seventh Fleet to help schedule visits of Navy ships to ports where a defense contractor, Leonard Glenn Francis, provided services including tugboats, security, transportation, supplies, fuel and waste removal.

In exchange, Francis provided Misiewicz with paid air travel, luxury hotel accomodations, prostitution services and other entertainment -- including five tickets to a Lady Gaga concert.

Immigration officer arrested for taking bribes of thousands in cash... and egg rolls



Asians behaving badly... egg roll bribery edition! In Southern California, an immigration officer was arrested last month for taking bribes -- thousands of dollars and egg rolls -- from immigrants seeking citizenship and green cards: Immigration Officer Took Egg Rolls, Cash as Bribes, Feds Say.

47-year-old Mai Nhu Nguyen, an officer for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, was arrested after accepting a $2,200 bribe from an immigrant who was seeking citizenship. In other instances, Nguyen allegedly took $1,000 from an immigrant seeking a green card, and 200 egg rolls from an immigrant seeking citizenship:
