May your daughters grow up to be badass snowboarders

Super Bowl commercial pays tribute to the sacrifices of snowboarder Chloe Kim's dad.

Behind so many great athletes, there's a parent who made a thousand sacrifices. In the case of 17-year-old champion snowboarder Chloe Kim, it was her dad Jong-Jin Kim, whose love and dedication to his Olympic-bound daughter are highlighted in this moving Super Bowl commercial for the 2018 Winter Olympics.

And whooo, it tugs at the heartstrings.

In the 60-second spot, set to Ray Charles' rendition of "America the Beautiful," we see Mr. Kim arriving late to pick up Chloe for snowboarding practice. We later seen him leave his job in order to support his daughter's snowboarding career full time. After that, he's there every step of the way, from practice to rides to competition.

The commercial closes with Chloe driving home from a competition, with her father happily asleep in the passenger seat, holding her trophy. Damn, I'm getting a little choked up while just writing about it.

Open for Thanksgiving

Guest Post by Jamie Ford

My father ran a restaurant -- a small, unassuming, diner kind of place, with a smoke-filled bar attached.

This meant that while my friends' fathers were engineers and pipe-fitters, with college degrees, journeyman's cards, or at least fancy titles, my dad breaded chops. He wasn't working on his masters on the side and wasn't in line for any kind of promotion, ever.

And to be painfully honest, as a selfish, myopic teenager, I was often embarrassed.

I felt like the Chinese version of Toula in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Growing up, on any given Saturday I'd doff my stained dishwasher's apron, go home and shower, then head to some junior high dance wondering if I still smelled of frying oil.

Much to my chagrin, birthday dinners were always held at the restaurant. It was the only way my dad could be there on my birthdays. My friends loved it, of course. Instead of eating delivery pizza, they could order anything off the menu and have the run of the place.

How cool is that?

"Not very," I'd mutter.

Gawd, I was a brat.

Awesome photo of "Umbrella Dad" goes viral

Father's soaked shirt is giving folks the feels.

This awesome photo of a dad shielding his kid from the rain is my favorite thing on the internet today. They're calling him "Umbrella Dad." The photo, taken in Flushing (other commenters have been claiming it's Vancouver), was posted online three days ago and went viral on Reddit after folks got the feels from seeing a combination of the dad's totally soaked shirt, the kid's cool lion backpack, a juicebox in his hand and a spring in his step. Thanks, Dad.

This Was Supposed To Be Funny: Fox's Dads

Oh no. Noooooo. So the networks have been unveiling previews of their fall series pickups... and here's one that looks like a stinker. In the Fox comedy Dads, Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi star as childhood best friends whose lives are turned upside down when their nightmare dads unexpectedly move in with them. I don't know what that has to do with dressing up Brenda Song in a schoolgirl outfit, or any of the other awful Asian jokes that plague this painful preview, but here you go:
