'Livewire' by Red Baraat

New free EP from one of the best damn live bands in the land.

New music from one of the best damn live bands in the land... Brooklyn-based dhol-and-brass Bhangra party squad Red Baraat, led by Sunny Jain, recently released a free (pay what you want) new five-song EP Livewire, recorded live in-studio earlier this year at KEXP in Seattle. One of the tracks, "Gaadi of Truth," from the album of the same name, features Stewart Copeland of The Police.

Adam WarRock Donation Drive 2014

Donate and support the internet's foremost geek emcee. Get free stuff.

Our friend Eugene Ahn, aka Adam WarRock, makes geeky fun hip hop music about geeky fun things, regularly posting free downloadable music on his website for all to enjoy. He's tremendously talented, and has been a longtime mutual supporter of this blog. You can listen to my podcast with Eugene, recorded last year, here.

Every year, Adam WarRock hosts a donation drive to help pay for the cost of his artistry. Can you support his work? By pitching in a couple of bucks, you help keep it free and running, and get some free stuff too. All donors get a new Adam WarRock mixtape album, a live band album and an exclusive pin up gallery.

Here are a couple of sample tracks in honor of Adam WarRock's Donation Drive 2014:

Listen to Adam WarRock's "Marvelous" ode to your new favorite superhero

Free track inspired by Marvel Comics' Pakistani American teenage superhero

NICE. Our friend Eugene Ahn, aka geek emcee extraordinaire Adam WarRock, raps about comic books, television shows, and other pop culture goodness. This week, he's releasing a handful of free tracks inspired by All-New Marvel NOW! titles, and they're some of the best songs he's done in a long time.

In addition to tracks about The Silver Surfer and Moon Knight (whaaa?), day three is dedicated to one of my favorite comic books of the moment, Ms. Marvel. "Marvelous" is Adam WarRock's ode to Pakistani American teenage superhero Kamala Khan, who is just plain awesome. Check it out:

Bright Vices EP by The Flavr Blue

Download the free new five-track album from the Seattle synth-pop trio.

I am crazy digging Bright Vices, the new EP from The Flavr Blue. The Seattle indie synth-pop trio -- aka Parker, Hollis and Lace -- follows up their 2012 debut album Pisces with a dreamy, moody blast of electro-cool melodies. (You might recognize Hollis Wong-Wear's vocals from Macklemore's "White Walls.") I've had it on repeat for the last two days. Great stuff. Here's the SoundCloud stream of the whole EP:

New Music: "All Bets Are Off" by Big Phony

Get it as a name-your-price download.

I've been dying to hear some new music from singer/songwriter Bobby Choy, aka Big Phony, who's been holding it down in Korea for the last few years. He's recently dropped this sweet new track, "All Bets Are Off," produced by Enik Lin of IAMMEDiC. Different kind of sound, but I'm really digging it. Check it out:

Finally, a hip hop track dedicated to Appa the Sky Bison

"Yip Yip." From the new Avatar: The Last Airbender mixtape by Adam WarRock.

Geeks gather 'round. This hip hop is for you. Known for his brand of internet pop cultural hip hip, rapper Adam WarRock has released Sozin's Comet, a new mixtape based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The free 7-song EP ranges on topics from specific characters in the show, the universe and lore around them, to a certain sky bison. Airbender fans, you know what I'm talking about.

New Music: Mint Condition Mixtape by Azuré

Some fresh new sounds... Bay Area rapper Azuré just dropped his latest mixtape, Mint Condition, and it's good stuff. It's some of that feel-good hip hop, with Azuré's cool flow and features from Na(T)ive Son, Dave Steezy, Allie Yamaguchi. Here's the previously released music video for "Slow Motion" featuring LV:

New Music: Old Boy Jon by Dumbfoundead

Check it. Los Angeles rapper Jonathan Park, aka Dumbfoundead, just released a new album, Old Boy Jon. The 16-track album, produced by Duke Westlake, is available as a free download from Bandcamp. I'm listening to it now, and it's good stuff from DFD as usual. Funny too. You can preview the album below:
