voting rights for chinese speakers

While I joked earlier this week about candidates names being translated into "sticky rice" and whatnot on Chinese-language ballots, I do believe equal rights and accessiblity for Chinese-speaking voters is important, serious issue. Massachussetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin has been making a big stink about phoneticized candidates names... and basically wants to take away the fully translated Chinese bilingual ballot from Boston voters. But frankly, he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Here's a good piece in the Boston Globe making the case for fully translated Chinese bilingual ballots (including transliterated candidate names): Chinese Americans deserve full voting rights.
