This week's Angry Reader is AJ Rafael.

Your Halloween Costumes, Part One

Above, we have the fearsome Ramakrishnan boys as Darth Vader and Spider-Man.

67-year-old man assaulted and robbed by group of teens

David Vo was repeatedly punched in the face by three teen suspects in South St. Louis.

This week in St. Louis, police are investigating the brutal assault and robbery of a 67-year-old man who was repeatedly punched in the face and beaten unconscious by three teenagers on the street.

Man robbed, attacked by teenagers in South STL

David Vo was out for an afternoon walk on Wednesday in South St. Louis when he was approached by three suspects who asked him for money. When he refused and tried to walk away, he was hit in the back of the head and punched in the face. He was found unconscious, suffering from skull fractures and a laceration to the face.

Vo was hospitalized and is still recovering from injuries. His daughter in law, Kris Vo, posted photos from his hospital bed, and cautioned people to be more aware of their surroundings:

Happy Halloween-aversary from 'Dr. Ken'

Episode 105: "Halloween-aversary" airs Friday, October 30 at 8:30pm on ABC

This week ABC's Dr. Ken, it's Halloween! That means lots of costumes, missing skeleton parts and a doped up hospital boss. Plus, Ken and Allison reminisce about the Halloween proposal gone wrong.

Inspired by executive producer/star Ken Jeong's real life and career as a medical doctor, Dr. Ken follows Dr. Ken Park, a physician with bad bedside manner trying to juggle medicine and being a family man to his wife and kids -- and not quite succeeding on either front.

Dr. Ken also stars the awesome Suzy Nakamura as Ken's wife Allison, Krista Marie Yu as daughter Molly, and Albert Tsai as his son Dave. They're all great. The cast is rounded out by Tisha Campbell-Martin as Damona, Jonathan Slavin as Clark, Kate Simses as Julie and Dave Foley as Pat.

In this week's episode, "Halloween-aversary," lots of Halloween hijinks. Here's a preview:

Jeremy Lin scores 17 points in Hornets season opener

Watch the video of Jeremy's game highlights.

In case you missed it... On Wednesday night, the Charlotte Hornets played their season opener against the Miami Heat, losing 104-94. But Jeremy Lin, rocking his latest crazy, baffling haircut, had a pretty decent night. Your favorite Asian American point guard showed up, scoring 17 points off the bench.

Here's a video with all of Jeremy's highlights:

Have faith, Walking Dead fans.

Glenn is just chillin'

Okay, after last week's devastating episode of The Walking Dead, there has been a great deal of speculation of what actually happened to a certain fan-favorite character. Walking Dead watchers, you know what I'm talking about. This hilarious illustration, which floated my way via Facebook, is easily my favorite theory. That is all.

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights on AMC.

Defense blames Indian grandfather in police brutality case

"When you come to the U.S. we expect you to follow our laws and speak our language."

This is some bullshit. Former Alabama police officer Eric Parker, accused of using excessive force after he was caught on camera throwing an Indian grandfather to the ground. is on trial again. The first trial ended in a hung jury last month. And this time, the defense appears determined to blame the victim.

Defense blames Indian grandfather at start of new trial, 'follow our laws and speak our language'

The altercation left 57-year-old Sureshbhai Patel partially paralyzed and hospitalized with a fused vertebrae. His apparent crime: going for a walk. (And being brown.) Parker can be seen in police dash cam video taking down Mr. Patel with a leg sweep, slamming him into the ground.

Officers responded to a call regarding a "suspicious person" in the neighborhood. That person turned out to be Mr. Patel, who was visiting from India and staying with his son's family. Patel, who does not speak English, was on an afternoon walk when he was stopped by police. Somehow, the situation rapidly escalated from "No English," to Mr. Patel getting his face slammed into the ground.

New campaign calls to end deportation of Southeast Asians

Watch the launch video from from 1Love Movement and SEAFN.

On Saturday, 1Love Movement and the Southeast Asian Freedom Network (SEAFN) launched a new national campaign calling for unity, awareness and action to end the United States' deportation policies that have targeted and further displaced the Southeast Asian refugee community for nearly two decades.

Last month, 1Love Movement toured cities around the United States to chronicle the struggles and voices of the Southeast Asian community impacted by deportation. As part of the campaign, they'll be sharing the stories from their tour with a series of videos released every month. The hope is to build power and a deeper understanding of the past, present and future of their community's struggle.

This is Why Jessica Huang Rules Everything Around Me

Watch her unleash Asian Mom Fury on some punk-ass kids in this clip from 'Fresh Off The Boat.'

This week's Halloween-themed episode of Fresh Off The Boat, "Miracle on Dead Street," was pretty damn great, from the rapid-fire jokes to the knee-deep pop culture references, and the Huang family looking fly in their costumes. But for my money, the best moment came early on from Jessica, playing by Constance Wu, being a boss when she magnificently confronts these punk-ass kids with all her Asian Mom Fury:

"I am NOT a costume."

Halloween spoken word by Jason Chu

"Thug" parties with blackface costumes. "Oriental geisha" outfits and "Indian" headdresses. Halloween is no excuse for ignorance. Race is not a party. Culture is not a costume. Poet/emcee Jason Chu just dropped this spoken word piece in time for Halloween, because we all know that really awful, culturally insensitive costumes are out there and you will most certainly see them in full force this week.

Sikh customer called "Osama" by Nathan's cashier

Parampal Singh Ghai is latest recipient of a racial receipt.

This again. Want to experience some dehumanizing, passive-aggressive racial and/or religious discrimination while just trying to live your damn life? Look no further than your fast food receipt. Over the weekend, a Sikh man examined his Nathan's receipt to discover the cashier had referred to him as "Osama."

Stand Up Against Dehumanizing Behavior

On Sunday, Parampal Singh Ghai and his father were driving up I-95 to New York when they pulled over at a rest stop in Aberdeen, Maryland. They ordered food at Nathan's Famous, when Parampal, who wears a turban in observance of his Sikh faith, realized that the cashier had written his name as "Osama" on the receipt.

Here are some more details about the event:

Skateboarder tackled, pepper-sprayed in Columbus Circle

NYPD officer caught on camera violently arresting skateboarder.

Well, this seemed rather excessive. In New York, a man was violently arrested by an NYPD officer for skateboarding in Columbus Circle. A video of the arrest shows the officer using a chokehold and pepper-spraying the skateboarder to subdue him.

Video: Cop Uses Chokehold, Pepper Spray To Take Down Skateboarder In Columbus Circle

The video, recorded in Columbus Circle on Sunday afternoon, shows the officer forcing 22-year-old Yibin Mu off his skateboard with his forearm, throwing him to the ground face-first, straddling his neck and pinning him down from behind. He then draws his pepper spray and sprays Mu in the face.

Mu uploaded video of the arrest to YouTube:

A rad little slice of kung fu flick badassery, directed Tran Quoc Bao.

Actions fans, check this out. The short film The Challenger, written and directed Tran Quoc Bao, is a rad little slice of kung fu flick badassery. With solid visuals and some kickass choregraphy, the eight-minute short is about a kung fu fighter who, eager to make a name for himself, challenges his hero in an underground match. It stars Martial Club's Andy Le and Ken Quitigua of ZeroGravity Stunts.

NBC developing family comedy 'I Love Lakshmi'

Inspired by writer Doug Prochilo's real-life experience marrying into an Indian family.

Some more interesting TV news... NBC is developing I Love Lakshmi, a comedy about a (presumably white) guy who marries into an Indian family, and the hilarity and hijinks that ensue from their cross-cultural union.

NBC Developing 'I Love Lakshmi' Family Comedy From Aggregate

According to Deadline, the multi-camera comedy, co-written by Muffy Bolding and Doug Prochilo, is inspired by Prochilo's real-life experience marrying into an Indian family (he is married to Bela Bejaria, President of Universal Television), which somebody must have thought was toooootally hilarious fodder for a TV show.

Backstreet Boys ain't got nuthin' on Vincent Rodriguez III

Josh Chan is Rachel's hilarious boy band fantasy on 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'

Have you been watching been Crazy Ex-Girlfriend? The CW musical comedy stars Rachel Bloom as Rebecca Bunch, who impulsively gives up her successful life and law career in New York City to relocate to West Covina, California in a quest for love, adventure and true happiness. Um, why West Covina? Her former flame Josh Chan, played by by the studly Vincent Rodriguez II, just happens to live there too.

On last night's episode, we got to see Josh Chan singing and dancing in an amaaaaaaazing boy band number, as fantasized by Rachel. And of course, Josh played all four different members of Rachel's dream group, from the sensitive crooner to the bad boy. It's pretty incredible, from the moment he says "Hey, girl."

School district claims kid wasn't bullied, hurt himself

First grader Jeremy Tsou suffered a fractured skull, requiring brain surgery.

More on the Southern California first grader who was bullied so severely, he suffered a skull fracture and had to undergo brain surgery. Thanks to social media shares, Jeremy Tsou's story has gained some traction -- over five months after the incident -- and now mainstream media outlets have started to pick up the story.

Parents Say Bullied Boy Needed Brain Surgery

Eli Tsou and Jenny Yang learned their son Jeremy, then a first grader at Baldwin Stocker Elementary School in Arcadia, suffered a head injury on May 19 when the Arcadia Unified School District sent them a "Notification of Possible Head Injury" letter. Jeremy says he fell and hit his head on a desk when another student tripped him.

While the letter said the injury "did not appear serious," it turns out that Jeremy suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding, requiring surgery.

New acoustic pop EP from Pennsylvania-based singer/songwriter

Just got around to listening to Lovers and Loners, the new EP from Pennsylvania-based singer/songwriter Kim Edwards, and I love it. The follow-up to her acclaimed 2012 debut full-length album Wanderlust, it's a gorgeous little six-song slice of acoustic pop goodness. You can count me as her newest fan.

Here's the music video for the track "The Sweetest Sound":

According to police, fraternity members at Pi Delta Psi, an Asian American fraternity, forced Deng to participate in a hazing ritual in which he was tackled repeatedly, then tried to cover it up after he suffered a brain injury.

Share your awesome Halloween costumes!

Submit your costume photos to be included in our annual costume gallery.

All right, good readers. Halloween looms, and in what has become a fun annual tradition, I want to see your costumes! For several years running, I've put the call out for photos of your awesome (and please, not racist) Halloween costumes and showcased them here on the blog. It's always a big hit, so we're doing it again.

For example, here we have a young man named Ronin rocking a kickass homemade costume as the original Shockwave from Transformers. Homeboy won best costume in his second grade costume contest.

'Meet the Patels' remake in the works

Ravi Patel and Geeta Patel will co-direct the narrative comedy for Fox Searchlight.

This sounds pretty cool... Ravi Patel and Geeta Patel, the sibling filmmaker team behind Meet the Patels, have signed a deal with Fox Searchlight to remake their hit documentary as a narrative comedy.

'Meet The Patels' In Fox Searchlight Remake Deal; Ravi And Geeta Patel To Write, Co-Direct

The film is the perfect real-life setup for a romantic comedy, so this is pretty much a no-brainer. Meet the Patels follows Ravi, nursing a devastating breakup, giving in to his parents' relentless pressure to let them find a suitable girl for him to marry. The film chronicles his hilarious attempt to find love the old-fashioned Indian way.

Ravi and Geeta will return to co-direct their own script.

First grader suffers fractured skull in bullying incident

But his school claims he slipped on a pencil.

Got this story passed along to me via social media... This is a parent's frustrating, heartbreaking story of bullying and a school administration's refusal to take action or accountability for an incident that sent one young student to the hospital with a fractured skull. Ridiculously, the school claims the kid tripped on a pencil.

On the ironic occasion of anti-bullying week at her child's school, Jenny Yang (no relation to comedian Jenny Yang) shared a Facebook post about her son Jeremy's traumatic experience with bullying. Five months ago, Jeremy -- then, a first-grader -- was pushed and tripped by a boy in his classroom at Baldwin Stocker Elementary School in Arcadia, California. He suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeding, requiring surgery.

According to Jenny, the school not only refused to acknowledge that her son was bullied, but made up a story that Jeremy tripped on a pencil. Jeremy's parents are now sharing about his experience to raise awareness about bullying, and send a message to bullied kids "that there are still people who stand behind you and who will fight for you."

Here's Jenny's Facebook post:

Will Yun Lee guest stars on 'Dr. Ken'

Episode 104: "Kevin O'Connell" airs Friday, October 23 at 8:30pm on ABC

This week, Will Yun Lee guest stars on the ABC comedy Dr. Ken as basically the cooler, more awesome version of Dr. Ken. Inspired by executive producer/star Ken Jeong's real life and career as a medical doctor, the series follows Dr.

In this week's episode, "Kevin O'Connell," Allison's hot ex-boyfriend comes to town. Here's a preview:

Netflix just dropped the first trailer for comedian Aziz Ansari's new original scripted series Master of None, and it looks pretty darn great. Community demands action in Cincinnati bullying incidents

Parents call on school board to address bullying on Asian American student.

On Thursday night in Cincinnati, over 150 angry community members gathered at a Fairfield Board of Education meeting to demand answers regarding ongoing bullying at a local middle school. Parents are protesting school officials inaction after a student took her own life last year, as well as another recent allegation of bullying against an Asian American student at the same school.

150 people show up at Fairfield board meeting to protest bullying

The school district has been under fire for its handling of bullying ever since Emilie Olsen, a student at Fairfield Middle School, took her own life last December. Her family contended that bullying had a hand in her death. Since then, parents say that another Asian American student has been bullied at the school -- by the same student who allegedly bullied Olsen.

One parent said this eighth grade daughter, who is Asian American, was recently the target of bullying by a while male student. The bullying resulted in a physical altercation in which the Asian American student was tripped and suffered a mild concussion and short term memory loss.
