widower faces fatherhood alone

This is a really sad story out of New York... Tai Ling Feng gave birth to her son Brian on January 24. Two and a half weeks later, on February 11, she died while waiting for a liver transplant, leaving her young husband, Indika S. Arachchige, to care for their newborn son alone: Mourning Resonates From Staten Island to Sri Lanka.

Indika, a legal permanent resident from Sri Lanka who manages two Subway sandwich shops on Staten Island, finds himself without a relative in the United States, struggling to adjust to life with a newborn while mourning his wife. It's heartbreaking. Social workers have been urging American officials to grant Indika's sister permission to visit from Sri Lanka to help care for the baby, but they're requests have been denied—apparently because officials aren't convinced that she would ever return home. I can't imagine what this guy must be going through...
