man shoots his entire family during housewarming

Some crazy news of a family shooting out of the Bay Area... On Sunday evening in Santa Clara, Devan Kalathat, an engineer working at Yahoo, open fired on his entire extended family during a housewarming party: Santa Clara killer opened fire on family during housewarming.

Everyone died except Kalathat's wife, who is in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds in her upper body. Along with the bodies of five others, including his two children and niece, police found Kalathat inside with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with two handguns nearby.

Police identified the victims as Kalathat's children: 11-year-old Akhil Dev and 4-year-old Negha Dev; Kalathat's brother-in-law Ashok Appu Poothemkandi, 35, Poothemkandi's wife, Suchitra Sivaraman, 25; and the Poothemkandis' infant daughter, Ahana Ashok.

What the hell happened? Kalthat wasn't having financial problems. What drove this guy to shoot his entire family? No one really seems to know, though police said they're investigating "family dynamics" as the motive for the killing. More here: Family dynamics probed in Santa Clara slayings.
