mortal kombat movie reboot?

Most movies based on video games suck. It's sort of a rule. But for some reason they just keep pumping them out, hoping one will finally be awesome. Maybe it'll be Mortal Kombat. Take a look at this "fan-made" video that's been making the rounds, based on the popular (and violent) fighting game:

Turns out, this is no ordinary fan flick. The short, which features Michael Jai White, Jeri Ryan and Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion, was directed by Kevin Tancharoen who did the recent reboot of Fame) as a test short for Warner Brothers to greenlight a full-blown feature.

Yes, they're working on Mortal Kombat movie reboot. I don't know who was clamoring for it, but why the hell not? I was always a Street Fighter guy myself, but I ain't holding out for that franchise, especially after the last piece of garbage they passed off as a movie.

And if this is the direction they're going in for Mortal Kombat, I'm all for it. This looks dark and cool. I'd love to see what Kevin Tancharoen does with a feature budget. More here: Mortal Kombat Fans, This Is The Hard 'R' MK Movie You've Been Waiting For.

Question: will it still have the cheesy techno soundtrack?
