The kid was apparently distraught by the family's recent move to Happy valley from Southeast Portland because he didn't want to be separated from his school friends. Yeah. So he pretended to be a racist psycho threatening to burn his own house down? This seriously bums me out.
"So what you have is a very misguided, emotionally disturbed kid trying to get his parents' attention," Strovink said. "It is a family tragedy."More here: Happy Valley teen admits hate crime hoax. I know he's just a teen, but that's damn stupid. This is not the kind of thing you cry wolf about. There is real-ass hateful shit happening to people every day, and this kid is making fake threats? No charges were filed against him.. but I think there are some serious issues that need to be worked in the Huynh household.
Strovink said the boy is very remorseful and was amazed at how large quick the response was from the community and law enforcement.
Detective Gil Millett, who investigated the case for Happy Valley police and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said the boy has apologized to his parents, police and the community.
"This child is very sorry, especially for bringing so much fear into the family home," Millett said. "The parents of this child were visibly shaken with the series of events that occurred this week and this child is sorry for this dreadful conduct."
Strovink said authorities do not plan to file charges against the boy, saying it the matter is being addressed by the Huynh family.
