Here's a nice Los Angeles Times article on pioneering actress Nancy Kwan, who starred in such iconic films as The World of Suzie Wong and Flower Drum Song. I don't care much for Suzie Wong's Chinese hooker-with-a-heart-of-gold storyline, but I can acknowledge what a breakthrough role it was for Hollywood at the time: Classic Hollywood: Nancy Kwan opened doors for Asian actors.
Nancy Kwan, who is celebrating fifty years in show business (and still looks fabulous), will be honored this weekend by the Chinese American Museum with a screening of The World of Suzie Wong and To Whom It May Concern: Ka Shen's Journey, and a dinner banquet. It's happening Sunday, May 22 at the AMC 14 Theater in Monterey Park. Here are some more details:
