see you at the san diego asian film festival, october 20-28

All right, San Diego film fans... The 12th annual San Diego Asian Film Festival, October 20-28, kicks off this Thursday with the Opening Night presentation of Bertha Bay-Sa Pan's Almost Perfect. This is always a fun event, and I look forward to attending every year. Take a look at the festival trailer:

Narrative features, documentaries, shorts -- there's all kinds of films for everyone. I had the honor of serving on this year's festival jury, so I can attest to the strength of the programming. And of course, there are panels, parties, and the annual Gala Awards Dinner. Here are Randall Park and Jae Suh, this year's dinner emcees, getting ready for the big night:

If you're heading to the festival this weekend, I should mention that I'll be moderating a dance-themed panel, ABCs of ABDC. Join me and co-moderator Julie Zhan as we sit down with members from I.aM.Me Crew, Instant Noodles Crew, dancer/actress Shelby Rabara and ECHOforward's Daniel Cho. Here are some more details:

Dance has become an integral part of Asian American youth culture, uniting the community in a unique and expressive way. Due to increasing accessibility and the mainstream success of shows like MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew and the online-driven The LXD (The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers), artists now have a platform to catapult to rock star-esque levels and inspire a new generation of dancers.

Enjoy an intimate panel discussion with contestants from MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew (ABDC) and members of the LXD as they talk about their experience on the show and in the industry. Music video directors and industry professionals will also be on hand to chime in on the evolving integration of dance in film and TV.

Scheduled to appear include members of America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 grand winners, I.AM.ME Crew, and season 6 finalists, Instant Noodles Crew, along with Shelby Rabara (The Dark Nurse) from the LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. Panel also includes Daniel Cho (Mnet).

$5 general admission and free for passholders.
You know I'm a big ABDC. Julie and I will do our best to make it a fun discussion.
