Yahoo! Movies has got the full theatrical trailer premiere for The Lady, starring Michelle Yeoh in the true story of Burmese democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi. The teaser trailer didn't give us much, but this one offers a better sense of how the movie will tell her extraordinary story. Take a look:
I'm a little wary that the life of such an amazing champion for justice and democracy has been repackaged as a love story. The film premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival to generally tepid reviews, with praised reserved for Michelle Yeoh's performance.
No official word on when The Lady will be hitting theaters, but the distributors are apparently trying to position the film for awards season, so expect a limited Oscar-qualifying run late in the year, then a general theatrical release sometime early next year.
