jeremy lin is out for the rest of the season

Aw maaaaan. Jeremy Lin is out for the rest of the season.

So that sore left knee they were keeping an eye on? It's not a shake-it-off kind of thing. He needs surgery to repair a torn meniscus and won't be able to play for the rest of the regular season and probably the playoffs, assuming the Knicks make it: Knicks' Push for Playoffs Will Go On Without Lin.

Jeremy will have arthroscopic surgery this week, and is expected to be out for six weeks. And with that, Linsanity -- at least, for those of us who were still claiming it -- comes to an abrupt halt. It's a huge bummer, considering what a wild, often amazing roller coaster these last two months have been. Here's video of Jeremy breaking the bad news:

After everything that's gone down, this is how Jeremy Lin's incredible season is going to end? It sucks. But I'm still in awe of this guy and his amazing story. And not just of his athleticism, but also his composure on and off the court. Which makes this so much harder -- his fantastic season deserves a much better ending than this.

Onward, Jeremy. Get that surgery done, get better, and bounce back for what's next. And honestly, thank you. More here (and for the record, to whoever wrote this headline, "Lin-surgery" is dumb, and makes absolutely no sense): Lin-surgery! Knicks guard to have knee operation.

UPDATE: From Facebook, a post-surgery photo of Jeremy, looking kind of bummed (or perhaps just a bit medicated), but on the road to recovery.
