sullivan & son premieres july 19 on tbs

Heads up. The new original sitcom Sullivan & Son, starring comedian Steve Byrne, has been in production for several weeks and is set to premiere on Thursday, July 19 on TBS. Make your plans and set your DVRs.

Steve stars as a successful corporate attorney who returns home to Pittsburgh to take over his father's working-class neighborhood pub. The show's cast includes Vivian Bang as Steve's sister, Jodi Long as his mother, and Dan Lauria -- yes, the dad from The Wonder Years! -- as his father. Here's a behind-the-scenes video thing:

I've seen the first couple of episodes. The pilot's a little clunky, and doesn't necessarily aim to re-invent the sitcom, but the later episodes get pretty funny. It's Cheers-esque, with a lot of solid laughs, comfortable characters types and great potential. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take it.

I've been a fan of Steve Byrne's comedy for years, and it's great to see him starring in his very own sitcom -- as part of a modern Korean American family, no less. Tune in to TBS on July 19 to see for yourself. For more information on Sullivan & Son, visit the TBS website here.
