Ever wanted to create your very own Manga comic? Don’t let the big eyes, primary-colored hair, and ninja magic distract you. Thumbnailing and layout are the heart of what makes Manga unique, and are essential skills that any aspiring Manga artist must master. Grandfather of contemporary manga and creator of the Kuniyoshi-inspired "Samurai Beam," Hiroki Otsuka, will lead a five-week workshop in which students will design their own eight-page comic. Along with the help of comic book artist June Kim, students will learn how to seamlessly and artfully control the reader's experience from panel to panel, and page to page. All students are encouraged to bring any past work for critique, and/or an existing comic (at least through the rough sketching phase) to use as a basis for their work in this class.
