Angry Reader of the Week: Aamer Rahman

Hey, everybody! You know what time it is. Time for you all to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Aamer Rahman.

Who are you?

Aamer Rahman.

What are you?

I'm a standup comedian, mostly I focus on political stuff.

Where are you?

Melbourne, Australia.

Where are you from?

I'm Muslim. My parents are Bangladeshi. I was born in the Middle East and moved to Australia when I was six. We moved back to the Middle East when I was 10 and then back to Australia again when I was around 13. I speak Bengali fluently.

What do you do?

Mostly I make jokes about racism and then sift through the mountains of hatemail it generates from angry white people on the internet.

What are you all about?

Comic books, cartoons, superheroes, sci-fi, Hip-Hop, action figures and sneakers. I was always involved in community work and activism before I started comedy, and for me comedy has always been about making my friends and my community laugh. I'm not trying to convert people who don't agree with me or 'educate' them through my comedy. I don't believe you can stop racism with jokes.

What makes you angry?

Haha. A lot of stuff. Actually when I first made my Tumblr a couple of years ago it was called 'Brown Man Rage,' which was basically an unoriginal homage to your site! What makes me angry? Police. Prisons. Iggy Azalea. Bad ethnic comedy. People not knowing who Yuri Kochiyama is. Robin Thicke and Justin Timberlake. Loving sci-fi, comics and nerd stuff even though most of it is racist. The way Michael Bay turned the Transformers franchise into a rolling advertisement for the US military. The World Bank and the IMF. Israel.
