Angry Reader of the Week: Tony Tonnu

Hey everybody. You know what's up. It is time to meet Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Tony Tonnu.

Who are you?

I'm Tony, and I've been an Angry Reader since I was 16.

What are you?

Second-generation, Vietnamese American, queer/trans* dude, and college student at UCLA. I'm also the Assistant Director of Internal Affairs for Asian Pacific Coalition at UC Los Angeles for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Where are you?

I'm located on the west side of Los Angeles.

Where are you from?

I'm from Orange County! I've lived mostly around the Little Saigon area. Woohoo!

What do you do?

I'm an Asian American Studies and American Literature & Culture double major over at UCLA. I also go on a lot of tangents during our staff meetings for Asian Pacific Coalition. Woops.

What are you all about?

Making mistakes! Not on purpose, and I'm definitely the kind of guy who wants everything to be perfect, but if my whole life has taught me anything, I'm far from perfect. So, I've been trying to learn from my mistakes! No point in dwelling in the past--only option is to move forward and learn from it, and accept gracefully that I've tripped and stumbled my way to where I am today. (I apologize to those who I have tripped and stumbled over. I was -- and still am -- learning.)

More tangibly, I'm all about my mom, who helped me get where I am today, who works hard and has never pressured me into doing much of anything, except maybe the dishes, and my friends, who make up my community. I'm also all about computers and data networking, which I always feel silly admitting since it feels so stereotypical, but there it is. I love ethernet cords.

I also love comics, social media, books, films, and technology. I'm all about that! I just wish all these things didn't cost so much money... but on the flip side, there's always libraries.

I almost forgot the most important part. I'm all about food. I wish I could just eat and get paid for it.

What makes you angry?

Gendered clothing. Come on!! It's a shirt!! There shouldn't be a reason why it's in one section over the other. Maybe if clothing was sorted by body type, it would be easier on everyone. Also, pockets on women's jeans. Those aren't pockets. Those are decorations!

Other things: the 405 at 7:30 on weekdays, piles of dishes in the sink, messy rooms (don't look at mine, though, it hasn't been cleaned in ... weeks), capitalism, our broken education system, and wrinkled money.

But really, what makes me angriest is a lack of compassion for others.

On a less serious note, cute animals make me angry.

If I can't be that cute, no one can be.
