Hello, good people of the internet! It is time, once again, to meet the Angry Reader of the Week, spotlighting you, the very special readers of this website. Over the years, I've been able to connect with a lot of cool folks, and this is a way of showing some appreciation and attention to the people who help make this blog what it is. This week's Angry Reader is Lee Shorten.
Who are you?
Looking at these first couple of questions, I couldn't help but think of Kindergarten Cop, 'Who is your daddy and what does he do?' Haha. But anyway, I'm Lee Shorten.
What are you?
The sum of my experiences? Haha. I'm an adopted, Asian Australian actor, lawyer and an avid film nerd. And if I'm feeling really pretentious, eternal student.
Where are you?
I'm currently based in Vancouver, where it rains far too much for my liking but the food is good.
Where are you from?
I was born in South Korea and I grew up in a small country town called Tamworth in Australia. I went to Law School in Newcastle, Australia. I moved to Canberra, Australia for work and now I'm here, in Vancouver, Canada. I like to list all the places I've lived because I think they've all shaped me in some way or another.
What do you do?
Like most actors in the early stages of their career I audition a lot. Haha. But I'm also fortunate enough to act in a show called The Man in the High Castle. I also still work as a lawyer, though I'm hoping to give that up soon. Otherwise, I like to read as much as I can.
What are you all about?
Brunch. Soft poached eggs and smashed avocado? Sold.
Books/Movies/Television. I think art is important. I think good art asks interesting and important questions. I think it challenges, inspires or uplifts. It has something to say about life, humanity and the human experience. Which is why I love it, because I think empathy is the key to moving forward as species.
Curiosity. Even as a kid I was always asking 'why'. It used to annoy the shit out of my parents and teachers. This and the above are why I enjoy acting, particularly as opposed to lawyering which by the very nature of the profession, usually forces you stay above the circumstances you are presented with.
Friends and family. Though like Dominic Toretto I usually think of them as one and the same.
Progress. It's a little cliché but 'be the change you wish to see in the world' is one of my favorite quotes. I'm trying you know, I fail a lot, but I'm trying which is all we can do I guess.
Work. I'm definitely a workaholic.
What makes you angry?
Injustice. Inequality. Apathy.
People who rage quit (I'm currently addicted to Overwatch).
Children and puppies. Kidding. I love kids. Puppies too, though I'm not a huge fan of small dogs.
Oh and alternative facts.
