the hardened criminals of cebu

This video from a prison in the Philippines has been making the rounds lately. It is not what I thought I would see when I clicked on "Filipino Prison Thriller." It's like a thousand Filipino prison inmates literally doing their rendition of Michael Jackson's "Thriller":

What. The. Hell. Is this for real? I want it to be real, because it is just so freaking bizarre, I love it. I've heard that Cebu is a rough area. This video certainly proves it. It shows that the hardened criminals of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center are men that you don't want to mess with.

You know what the best part is? The description says that this is actually just practice. The final product should be awesome. My only question is, how do they decide who gets to be Michael? A dance off, a la "Beat It"?

UPDATE: The video is indeed real. The dancing is apparently part of an effort to improve inmate behavior, and compulsory for all prisoners at Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Centre: Philippine jailhouse rocks to Thriller. Also in their repertoire are songs by local artists, Queen, the Village People and selections from the film Sister Act. And coming soon: "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice. AWESOME.
