lee is the new smith

According to statistic compiled by The Vancouver Sun, Lee is now the single most common surname in greater Vancouver, shared by more than 5,800 households in two area codes: Lee is the most common surname in the Lower Mainland. Hey, I actually know a few Lees in Vancouver. If you add in those with the surname Li—which is the same name as Lee, just in Mandarin instead of Cantonese—there are now more than twice as many Lees in the Lower Mainland as Smiths (the former most common name). Lee is also the most popular surname in British Columbia as a whole, followed by Wong, Smith and Chan. Kim comes in fifth. So much for Smith, the stereotypical everyman. Step down. It's all about Lee now.
