ethnic journalism is bad for your health

According to this San Francisco Chronicle story, reporting for ethnic media has been the most dangerous journalism job in the United States for the last thirty years: Grassroots ethnic reporting a perilous calling.

Since 1976, 11 of 13 journalists killed in the United States in apparent retaliation for their reporting worked for the ethnic press. These slain reporters include Lam Trong Duong, who was shot in 1981 by an anti-communist group in San Francisco, and Henry Liu, killed in 1984 by hit men hired by the Taiwanese government.

Man, you hear a lot about American journalists running into danger abroad, but who knew reporting for ethnic media in America could be so deadly?
