asian americans in the obama administration?

First, the victory party. And now, transition. As Barack Obama looks ahead to assuming the office of the President on January 20, he has put together a transition operation in preparation for the new administration: Obama Campaign Names Transition Team.

Chris Lu, Obama's Senate legislative director, will serve as executive director. Pete Rouse, Obama's chief of staff in the Senate, will be co-chairman. And Sonal Shah of Google.org is also among the names in the transition team. Very, very cool to see Asian Americans as part of the process.

What will Obama's administration actually look like? Can we expect the president-elect to appoint representatives from the Asian American community to his new administration? It's definitely possible: Asian-Americans eye posts in Obama administration.

With studies indicating that Asian Americans were a "deciding factor" in the presidential race in key states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Nevada, some are expecting Obama to appoint members of the community in key posts in his administration to reflect our rapidly growing demographic.

I'm definitely interested in seeing how it all comes together. We could see a couple of key individuals named as cabinet members, like Congressman Mike Honda or former Washington governor Gary Locke. Sepia Mutiny suggests some serious South Asian representation. Hey, it could really happen. I guess we'll have to see.
