Now playing in very limited release, the indie horror/comedy My Name Is Bruce, which looks bad for a lot of reasons, including some really stupid racial caricatures and stereotypes. Bruce Campbell stars as himself, a popular cult actor who gets mistaken for his character Ash from the Evil Dead movies, and must defend a small town from a real monster—a nine-foot tall sword-wielding Chinese god of war. Yeah.
Who's brilliant idea was this? Not sure why the Chinese god of war thing was necessary, or what such a creature is doing terrorizing a small town in Oregon. Maybe they just needed an excuse to dress Ted Raimi up in yellowface as an old Asian man, shown above. I guess that'll always be funny to somebody. That's racist! The movie is currently doing a limited city-by-city theatrical run. View the trailer here.
