dreamworks picks up masi oka's the defenders

According to the Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks has picked up The Defenders, a big-screen family adventure project conceived by Heroes star Masi Oka: "Heroes" actor Masi Oka develops big-screen project.

The story centers on a group of mostly teenagers from around the world who are involved in a multiplayer video game, each unaware of who the others are behind the cover of their consoles and avatars. They are forced to come together for a real adventure, becoming inadvertent heroes in the process.

D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) is negotiations to direct, with Gary Whitta (the Book of Eli) on board to write the script. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek) will produce. I'm assuming Masi Oka will star, right? I mean, it's about a bunch of people who play video games -- you've got to have so Asians in there. Right? Hello? Hollywood?
