korean american police officer takes a different path

Here's an interesting NPR story that aired the other day on Julie Sohn, the child of Korean immigrants, who took a very non-traditional career path by becoming a Los Angeles police officer: Korean-American Police Officer Sidesteps Tradition.

The segment is part of an ongoing NPR series called "Immigrants' Children: A Foot In Two Worlds," examining the legacy of immigrants and telling the stories of their children in the United States.

Born and raised in America, Soh currently works in the Los Angeles Police Department's Use of Force Review Division. Before joining the LAPD, she did a tour in Iraq with the Marines. That's non-traditional! Of course, her parents just want her to find a boyfriend and get married.
