eddie chung and the achievers: the story of lebowski fans

The Los Angeles Times has a story on Eddie Chung, the filmmaker behind The Achievers: The Story of the Lebowski Fans, a documentary on the crazy fandom that has grown out of one movie -- The Big Lebowski: 'The Achievers: The Story of the Lebowski Fans' explores the Dude phenomenon.

The 1998 Coen Brothers mistaken-identity comedy, starring Jeff Bridges as "The Dude," has become a massive pop-cult phenomenon in its post-theater afterlife, spawning legions of fans and an annual gathering called Lebowski Fest.

Funny, considering that the movie originally opened to mixed reviews and only enjoyed a six-week run in theaters, barely making back its budget. Chung recounts that he saw the movie back when it opened, and was apparently the only one in the theater.

Over ten years later, the Lebowski Fest is an annual gathering attracting thousands of visitors from all over the world. And Eddie Chung's film attempts to capture it all. To learn more about The Achievers: The Story of the Lebowski Fans, go to the website here.
