Opening in theaters today... Bandslam, about a group of musical misfit teens who band together to compete in the ultimate battle of the bands. The movie stars High School Musical's Vanessa Hudgens, as well as Tim Jo as Omar and Lisa Chung as Kim. Rock on, kids.
Ponyo, the latest animated feature from master director Hayao Miyazaki -- possibly the greatest living filmmaker in the world, animation or otherwise. Opening in 800 theaters nationwide, it's the widest release ever for a Miyazaki film. Here's a nice piece on the director over at Yahoo! Red-hot comic actor Ken Jeong is in the cast of The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. I haven't seen the film, but I've made some observations about a particularly distasteful moment in the trailer. No, you're not dreaming -- you've seen a lot of Dr. Ken lately. He's been in like 47 movies this year, with more to come. Hopefully, he doesn't get his ass kicked in all of them...
