dolly gee confirmed as federal judge

On Christmas Eve, attorney Dolly Gee received the news that the U.S. Senate had confirmed her as a federal judge. She will be the first Chinese American woman to serve on the U.S. District Court: L.A. attorney confirmed for federal judgeship.

Nominated by President Obama last summer, this actually isn't the first time Gee had been up for a federal judgeship. Ten years ago, she was nominated by President Clinton, but Clinton's term ended without a confirmation.

This time, she's got it, and it's a hell of breakthrough. As the granddaughter of immigrants from rural China, and the daughter of a World War II veteran, Gee is now making history as a true Chinese American pioneer. More here: LA attorney becomes first Chinese American woman on federal bench.
