rice field of dreams trailer

Check out the trailer for Daron Ker's Rice Field of Dreams, an upcoming documentary on the first national Cambodian baseball team as they compete in the Sea Games, a South Asian equivalent of the Olympics.

The film focuses on team founder Joe Cook, a Khmer Rouge survivor, and his relationship with the players, the American coaches he recruits, and American Major League Baseball. Things start out okay, but as the trailer indicates, fireworks fly when Joe and his collaborators disagree on how the teams should be coached.

I don't know much more about the film, but this video gives a little more context for the film, providing a little history on the dark legacy of the Khmer Rouge, what Cambodian society looks like today, and how baseball fits in. Look for the film sometime this year.
