Since first singing at Catalina Jazz Club with the LA County High School for the Arts Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Joyce Kwon has explored innovative modes of improvisation with pianist Myra Melford, bebop with bay-area saxophonist Dann Zinn, as well as Brazilian pop and Korean folk songs, while studying composition at UC Berkeley. After graduating in May, she traveled throughout America, from the Amazon to São Paulo, Boston to Berkeley, teaching music and performing. Joyce returns to Los Angeles with a quintet of great musicians, for an evening of bossa nova, lesser-known standards and the unexpected.
