accused murderer found mentally incompetent

An update out of San Diego on Bryan Chenhua Chang, who is accused of fatally beating his mother, cutting off her arm and putting part of her skull in the refrigerator.... This week, Chang was found mentally incompetent to stand trial: Calif man accused of killing mom not fit for trial.

A San Diego County judge reviewed a doctor's evaluation of Chang on Monday and ruled the 28-year-old did not understand the murder charge he faces and couldn't assist his attorney at trial. Yes, something is definitely not right with a guy who would do something like this.

Chang is charged with murder, with a special circumstance allegation of murder for financial gain that could result in a death sentence or life in prison without parole if he's convicted. He's being held without bail and will be sent to a state mental hospital until he is fit for tria.

Sherry Chu Chang's body was found in January at her home. Detectives traced a bloody fingerprint back to her son, who was arrested two days later. Prosecutors say the two might have had a disagreement about money. More here: Son not competent to stand trial in mom's murder.
